MR MODELBAU : CENTAUR CONVERSION This is the first kit I've finished in ages and it's a nice conversion set to turn Revell's excellent Cromwell into a 95mm Centaur. The set consists of perferated wheels, a new barrel, hull front plate, wading gear and stowage. BUILDING AND DETAILING As with all the latest releases from Revell the kit pretty much fell together and the conversion was straight forward enough too. I added the dial site and opened up the other turret hatch and finished by adding a couple of British Tanker figures from Milicast. PAINTING THE KIT I decided to paint my vehicle as one of the RMASG tanks used in the Normandy Landings rolling through an open path in a mine field not far from the beaches. I started by building the colour up from a dark brown with various shades of buff and sand then I painted the details of stowage and wheels. I drew on the turret markings, the name "Hunter", the unit marking and No.2 before handpainting. I then gave the vehicle various light washes and once dry a bit of dry brushing. I then dusted on pastels and used a pencil on areas of constant wear. BASEWORK I built up the base with PVA glue mixed with sand and polyfila. I sprayed different shades of sand before adding static grass and some longer grass. the little sign and minefield markers are handpainted. |
